The Background to the Creation of F**k It Yoga

John speaking –

“A while back I developed a problem with my achilles heels (having plodded around in sandals for too long), and this led me into doing regular yoga-like stretching.

And I really rather liked them.

So I added some more yoga (with the help of a great yoga teacher, Meg Jackson) and some Qigong.

And, as well as helping with the heels, I found (to my delight) that this mixture was getting me to a ‘F**k It Space’ in a very effective and powerful way.

And getting into this ‘F**k It Space’ – when we’re really relaxed no matter what is going on, when we’re lighter about life, when we simply feel good and calm – is what really interests me.

So the thought arose…

Why not teach people this special form of yoga, with the aim of taking people to this powerful F**k It State?
It will contain the beautiful yoga that people are familiar with, but take people to this unfamiliar space.

So I’ve got together with aforementioned yoga teacher – Meg Jackson (founder of ‘Real Life Yoga’ in London). And we’ve put something together that’s both familiar and brand new.

And you’re going to love it.

F**k It Yoga is yoga designed to take you to a F**k It Space

When you’re in a ‘F**k It Space’ you are more relaxed, more care-free, more present and peaceful and yet more playful and creative.

We all hit that space occasionally, but it’s usually short-lived, and we find it difficult to enter at will.
When we enter the F**k It Space, a different part of the brain is activated (usually right rather than left brain) and the brain switches frequency (usually from beta to alpha).

 

When you say ‘F**k It’ to something big that’s bothering you, you will likely momentarily enter the F**k It Space.
But what we’re interested in is the ability to access the F**k It Space readily and frequently in order to live from a space where we’re relaxed by default, less serious and generally less bothered about the everyday occurrences that normally cause stress.

F**k It Yoga is the full system we’ve created to provide this access, with practice, to the F**k It Space.

Yes, much of it look like the yoga you’re used to doing or have heard of. After all, yoga is a proven mind-body system that many people enjoy practising.

Meg Jackson brings years of experience to the F**k It Yoga Party having helped all kinds of bodies get happier and healthier with yoga. As founder of Real Life Yoga (London), the priority in her practice and teaching is be curious, not a contortionist. Every body can do yoga.

 

And John C. Parkin brings his experience of the Chinese internal arts, especially ‘Qigong’ (often dubbed ‘the Chinese yoga’), hypnotherapy and a deep understanding of the day-to day practice and neuroscience of altered brain states.  And, of course, the philosophy of ‘F**k It’ that he created from experiments with such altered states.

So, on this, the first ever F**k It Yoga Retreat, you’ll join the pioneers of a new type of yoga – F**k It Yoga.

The mechanics of this F**k It Yoga system will look partly familiar and also brand new –

– John will introduce each session with the theme for that day – and begin the exploration into the F**k It Yoga space.  People say that just listening to John takes them to a more relaxed space.
The aim is always to take you to a F**k It Space.

– Meg will take you through a yoga practice adapted to the theme of that day, using the traditional yoga asanas of the Vinyasa flow form, with an added energy awareness informed by the Chinese practice of Qigong (and with the inclusion of some Qigong postures too).
The aim is always to take you to a F**k It Space.

– The yoga will be accompanied by music from John, chosen and created to soothe the brain and hasten the change in state.
The aim is always to take you to a F**k It Space.

– The theme each day will be a pillar of the F**k It Space, for example ‘playfulness’ or ‘acceptance’ that in itself can help take you to the F**k It Space, but building up over a week to provide you with a full system to take away and practise at home.

The mechanics of this F**k It Yoga system have been developed over years (F**k It Yoga was first considered in 2005).
But it’s the quality of the intention, the teaching and the space that is co-created between the teachers, the students and The Hill That Breathes itself that makes the difference.

This retreat is suitable for all levels and all bodies. If you’ve never tried yoga, fine, you’re being introduced to it via this revolutionary type of yoga. If you’re an experienced yogi, then this is a chance to take your yoga to a new level with the energy elements of Qigong and the mind-altering elements of F**k It Yoga as a whole.

ABOUT THE HILL THAT BREATHES

“The Hill is a magical place.” The Observer “Heartbreakingly lovely” The Guardian HILL CAPTURE The Hill That Breathes is a truly magical place.  (Disclaimer here: we are somewhat biased as we created The Hill back in 2004, though we no longer live there or run it.) When we first saw the long-abandoned property and woods on this vast hill we could feel the magic and sense of peace.  It always relaxed us there.  And over the time that we lived there and ran retreats, many miracles happened.  Including our realisation that the profanity ‘F**k It’ could be therapeutic. Now, The Hill is run (and inhabited by) the Dutch Marsi family. They will look after you during your retreat – and Sandor (a great chef) will have you looking forward to meals.

The Hill That Breathes, then, is a 100 acre wooded hill.  There are two converted farmhouses, a variety of outhouses, a stunning panoramic pool that pops out from the deep woods and a yoga platform for your sessions (or a large space inside one of the houses). The Hill has a few things that none of our other venues have: you, as a group, will have exclusive use of the space (and this space is vast and isolated, so that means complete freedom), and it is a wild place (you will most likely see deer in the woods and hear owls at night). The Hill was voted ‘Europe’s Best Retreat’ a few years ago for good reason: it is the perfect place to retreat from your daily life, pause and refresh and become inspired again. Even though The Hill is in a very isolated valley with very few neighbours, it’s still only 20 minutes from the awe-inspiring beauty and cultural significance of Urbino (and they have nice bars and geleterias too!).


Travelling to this venue (in brief): We will give you (very) detailed instructions once you book (in your ‘holiday pack’), but, briefly… We will invite you to a private Facebook group so that you can talk to other guests who are coming on the same week, and thus meet and share taxis, etc.. if you fancy. Most of our guests fly to Bologna, as it has the most flight options (though Ancona is a little closer).  You would then take the train to Pesaro (1 to 2 hours depending on train).  And take (and usually, share) a taxi up to The Hill That Breathes (about 50 mins). In other words, it’s all pretty straightforward (and rather exciting).

To book, it’s easy: 1. Just check availability of your desired room option using the button below. 2.  We’ll let you know by email if there’s space. If there is, we’ll then give you a link to the booking page.  You can then fill in our booking form and pay the 1st instalment of €590 online within 5 minutes (yes, we’ve timed it!). 3. Payment Timings in detail:

Generally you pay in three instalments (depending on when you book). The 1st instalment of €590 secures your booking. The 2nd instalment is due 2 months later or 2 months before the retreat, whichever is earlier. The 3rd instalment, payable to the venue, is due 6 weeks before the retreat. We will take you through the precise figures of the 2nd and 3rd instalments when we reply to your availability enquiry. If you’re booking within the 2 months or 6 weeks prior to the start of your retreat, then you’ll be paying different instalments at the same time, or close to one another. Again, we will specify precise deadlines in our email reply.

with TRIPLE SPACE

Many of our guests come to a retreat on their own, then share with others. In this triple room, you share with two others (of the same sex). You’re certain to make a bunch of new friends on a F**k It Retreat, and your ‘roomies’ in such a room tend to even more special. Many of our guests come to a retreat on their own, then share with another guest (of the same sex) in a ‘twin’ room. Those booking ‘double’ rooms come to a retreat with another person, and tend to know them rather well. with SEMI-SINGLE SPACE

There are 5 rooms at The Hill with separate mezzanine floors.  So one person can sleep in the downstairs area, and one on the mezzanine, with, therefore, a degree of separation – and thus these spaces are ‘semi-single’.
